A Love For You Alone

Words: St. John of the Cross, "Ascent to Mount Carmel"
Music: Robert Loretz

By love of You inspire my journey home, Enkindled in that fire that burns desire to simply roam from thrill to thrill, while left alone. Let this night still, that you fulfil your holy will in me, instill in me a love for You alone. Crucify the lie within my sense, that it could somehow recompense the loss of You, Disperse the denseness of this fog leaving Your dew that it renew in me a love for You alone.

Your voice replaces brother ass's brae, that faith may yet recover blind where flesh declined Your Way, leaving disgust for paths astray. Grant that I trust and so entrust myself to You as must I do if I would love without delay. Then I find you blind me even more, and in this darkness I adore, while falling dead, and thus impore You as You draw me to Yourself, that from Your mouth I live to give myself away.

On a dark night, kindled in love with yearnings – oh happy chance, I went forth, without being observed, my house now being at rest.In darkness and secure, by a secret ladder, diguised - oh happy chance -in darkness and in concealment, my house being now at rest.
